ALHAMBRA - Gloria M. Barenfenger, 86, of Alhambra, Illinois, died Monday, August 22, 2016, at Bethalto Care Center in Bethalto, Illinois.
She was born on Wednesday, May 7, 1930, in Worden, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Mary (nee Zirges) Barenfenger.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Prairietown, Illinois, Ladies Aid and Choir, Alhambra Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary (past secretary).
She was born in Worden, Illinois; graduated from Worden High School in 1948. She affirmed her faith through the rite of confirmation on April 18, 1943. After graduation she started working as a secretary for U.S. Radiator Corp, Edwardsville, Illinois, for one and half years. She then worked as an account/bookkeeper for Illinois Lumber Co., Edwardsville, (wholesale division) for 32 years. She then worked for the Department of Agriculture in Edwardsville as a program assistant for nine years and retired in December of 1995. She lived on a farm near Prairietown until 1972 when she built a new home and moved to Alhambra, Illinois. She moved to Villa Rose Senior Living Community, Bethalto, in 2013. She enjoyed Polka dancing; reading; growing flowers; faithful in her faith; spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include four cousins, Neva Griesbaum of Bethalto, Illinois, Neil (Nita) Neunaber of Wood River, Illinois, Don (Evelyn) Schaake of Edwardsville, Illinois, Marie Schreiber of Bethalto; Godchild, Pam (Kent) Brigman of Dorsey, Illinois, Godchild, Lanette (Phil) Boileau of Canton, Michigan; and many second cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward E. Barenfenger; mother, Mary E. Barenfenger, nee Zirges; sister, Wilma M. Reinacher (died Aug. 28, 2006), brother-in-law, Curtis A. Reinacher (died September 28, 2013), and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairietown, Illinois and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.Funeral Service on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairietown, with Rev. Dale A. Skeesick, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at Prairietown Cemetery in Prairietown.
Arrangements are being handled by Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
