William was the son of John G. & Elizabeth (Baisden) Dampier.
The 1880 Census shows that William was born in Florida, was living in 60th Innumeration District, Hernando County with his first wife Henrietta (Godwin) and 4 year old son J.M. (John Miller). Before Henrietta passed away in 1884, they also had a daughter, Susan E.
This area would later break away from Hernando County and be called Citrus County.
The 1900 Census shows William was living in Inverness, Florida with his wife Janie (Franzot), and children Annie, James, William, Seven and a 5 month old baby.
