C. Joseph Lunsford, 49, of 1617 Maumee Dr., died at Greene Memorial Hospital at 10:35 a.m. Sunday following a short illness. He was admitted to the hospital the previous Monday.
He was born in Powhatan, W.Va., Sept. 19, 1932, the son of William M. and Nannie R. Anderson Lunsford.
His widow, the former Gayle M. Rose, whom he married Oct. 29, 1955 in Pearisburg, W. Va., survives.
He came to Xenia from Princeton, W. Va., 18 years ago and was employed as a driver for the city of Xenia.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Joey (Rhonda) Eckles of Cincinnati and Donna Jo and Diane Gayle Lunsford, at home; a grandson, Jason Eckles of Cincinnati and three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Teresa) Cain of Xenia and Mable Auxier and Julia Bailey, both of Texas.
Three brothers preceded him in death.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Priceton, W. Va. He was past president and a member of Eagles Lodge No. 1689 and Cooper-Jordan Post, VFW No. 2402, where he was entertainment chairman.
He also was a YRC umpire, a Babe Ruth baseball coach and former secretary-treasurer of the Wee Bucs football program where he organized the traveling team that played in West Virginia. He was an avid bowler. He also helped organize the Princeton Life Squad and served with the U.S. Marines in the Korean Conflict.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., with Rev. Keith Albrecht of St. Brigid Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
