Mary B. Smith, 64, Dies At Home, Rites Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Bennett Smith, 64, 466 Douglas St., civic, church and business leader, will be Friday at noon in the Thirty-third Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 453-11th East.
Mrs. Smith died Wednesday at her home of cancer. Friends may call at 260 E. South Temple, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the chapel Friday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was vice president and past president of Cleofan Literary Club, and was a delegate to the Salt Lake Council of Women and the Women's Legislative Council for the Cleofan.
Other Offices Held
She was vice chairman of the Sorosis Scholarship Fund and was past president of the Sorosis Alumni, Utah State Sorority, Salt Lake Chapter. She was a past PTA president and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Mothers Club.
At the time of her death Mrs. Smith was vice president of Kenneth E. Smith Co., an appliance and home specialties business. She was also treasurer of Bennett's Sales Co., Salt Lake City.
Mrs. Smith was a 1928 graduate of Utah State University. She also attended the University of Utah, where she was involved in many musical programs.
As a member o the LDS Church, she served over 40 continuous years in the Primary as president and teacher.
Visiting teacher
She served as a visiting teacher supervisor in the Relief Society and was a Sunday School teacher. She also volunteered work at the Relief Society's Department of Social Services.
A native of Salt Lake City, she was born May 29, 1906, daughter of John Foster and Rose Wallace Bennett. She married Kenneth E. Smith Sept. 22, 1998 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Surviving are her husband; two sons and three daughters, . . . ; 18 grandchildren; three brothers, one sister, Sen. Wallace F., Washington, D.C.; Harold H., Richard S., Mrs. Elwood G. (Elizabeth) Winters, all Salt Lake City.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Primary children's Hospital.
