Cocke brother and sister married Whipps brother and sister. Coe and Amos lived in Perry Co., OH, most of their lives. Amos and Thomas Cohagan were co-owners of a lumber manufacturing company in New Lexington for many years.
In later years they moved to and lived out their lives in Columbus. On 31Oct 1926 when returning from church, they were struck down by a streetcar and "Coe" died that night. Amos recovered and lived ten more years. The Columbus Citizen in Ohio had the following article on 1 Nov 1920:
"Moxahala (O.) Woman Badly Hurt En Route to Dying Mother's Bedside in Hospital Here. Mrs Viola Norris, 44, of Moxahala, O., was seriously hurt in an auto crash early Monday as she was rushing to the bedside of a dying mother and injured father, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Whipps, both 72 years old, 499 Chilcote Av, Columbus, traffic victims. / Mrs. Whipps died in White Cross Hospital early Monday of injuries she received when struck by an automobile driven by C. Miller, 18, of 159 Blenkner st, at N. Fourth st. and Wyandotte av. late Sunday. / Her husband is in University Hospital with a fractured arm and severe cuts and bruises. / At midnight Sunday, relatives phoned to Mrs. Norris that her mother was dying. / RACE WITH DEATH. / She immediately went to her next door neighbor, Warren Storts, and arranged for Storts to take her on the dash - a race with death - to Columbus. / They were going thru Lexington when another car, crashed into them. / Mrs. Norris' head went thru the windshield, but a big hat that dropped over her face saved her from serious cuts about the head. / She was brought to Columbus and is now at the home of Amos J. Whipps, 74 E. Longview av. She did not get to see her mother before she died. / A deep gash is in her left leg, three ribs are broken and her nose is cut. Six stiches were taken to close the wound in her leg. / Mr. and Mrs. Whipps celebrated their golden anniversary on Labor Day. Mrs. Whipps was one of 28 Ohioans killed in week-end traffic accidents." At the time of the accident Amos and Maria were returning home from Indianola Avenue Church of Christ.
