Wendelyn Avers was born Oct. 20, 1952, in Adrian, Mich., to Maurice E. and Kathryn L. (Underwood) Avers. She married Daniel Leighton on Nov. 15, 1975, in Moline. She graduated in 1974 from Illinois State University, Normal, with a bachelor of science degree. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She enjoyed gardening, reading and cross stitching. A college fund had been established as a memorial.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carsen, at home; a son, Connor, at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Kristyn and Michael Mahler, LeClaire, Iowa; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Patti Avers, Monticello, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Maurice Avers.
