William Ponder Adkins, son of George James Adkins (1886-1963) and Martha Jane Reeves Adkins (1886-1971), was born in Montgomery County, Tenn on 30 Aug 1913.

He was raised in Montgomery, Davidson, and Houston Counties, Tenn and on 17 Oct 1941 in Detroit Michigan he joined the US Army and served until 18 Oct 1945. On 5 Jul 1946 in Detroit, Michigan he married Miss Doris Geneva Self, daughter of William Upton Self (1877-1957) and Nora D Proctor Self (1887-1929).
William and Doris were the parent of two children:

William Timothy Adkins (1953-1953)
Sandra Kay Adkins McCown.

William Ponder Adkins was a retired teacher and principal of Fredonia School when he died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn on 25 Oct 2000. He was buried at Pleasant View Cemetery, Slayden, Dickson County, Tenn.
