Janie Carlisle Shepherd, lovingly called "Miss Janie" or "Granny Jane," passed away at her home at the age of 84 on Jan. 17, 2016.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Springfield Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by the Rev. J.B. Loving and the Rev. Glenn Harris. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Janie was born March 4, 1931, daughter of the late Nash and Stella Cox Carlisle. She retired from Abbott Laboratories after many years of service. She served as a longtime faithful member of the Springfield Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved cooking for her family, especially her famous homemade biscuits. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Spencer Shepherd and son Charles Spencer Shepherd.
Surviving are her son Tommy Shepherd (Lou) of Laurinburg, her daughters Melbie Fedler (Bob) of Laurel Hill, Phyllis Johnson (Gene) of Laurinburg, Doris Reese of Georgia, Peggy Beasley (Jimmy) of Laurel Hill, and Vivian Siongco (Danny) of Oregon, two brothers: J.W. Carlisle of Thomasville and Donald Ray Carlisle of Hamlet, three sisters: Helen Stanton of Rockingham, Sarah Benton of Laurel Hill, and Essie Sutton of Cheraw, South Carolina, 28 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, 47 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
The family requests that memorial donations be given in her memory to Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
