Caroline Mann Maynard, 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016.

Born in Charleston, W.Va., on May 29, 1930, she graduated from Ashland Sr. High School and attended Mary Washington College and Marshall University. Caroline married Russell T. Maynard on April 7, 1950, and together they raised seven children.

Caroline was devoted to serving the Lord at Bush Hill Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, The Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg and Hope Presbyterian Church in Spotsylvania County.

Caroline leaves a legacy of kindness, compassion, humility and good humor cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by four sons and two daughters, Robert Maynard (Barbara Minton), Gail Vadeboncoeur (Paul), William Maynard, Samuel Maynard, David Maynard and Jennifer Tate (Stephen); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren with one on the way. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends, including her beloved dog, “Tootsie.” Caroline was preceded in death by her father, John Mann; her stepfather, Julian Bragg; and her mother, Vondea Hamilton Bragg; as well as her husband of 60 years, Russ Maynard; and her eldest son, Capt. Russell T. Maynard Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Hope Presbyterian Church, 11121 Leavells Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. Interment will take place in Arlington Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of MWH and Hospice for their care of Caroline during her recent stay. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Caroline’s memory may be made to Hope Presbyterian Church where she was a charter member and joyfully shared her faith by teaching PreK Sunday school until the age of 84.
