Mr. J. C. ACKER

WE are called upon to note the sudden taking from our midst of Mr. J. C. Acker, an old soldier, aged 54 years, who has gone to join the silent army, the great majority. Mr. Acker was finishing painting a sign on the front of Geo. Hess' hardware store Tuesday (Jun. 12) evening, when about six o'clock he was taken suddenly ill with painter's paralysis due to lead poisoning. Being at once conveyed to the Commercial HOtel, Drs. Smith and Poff were called, but all efforts to restore the sick man failed, and he died about 9 o'clock the same evening, unconscious to the last. The funeral occurred yesterday morning. Mr. Acker was a skillful workman, the finest sign writer and decorator the West afforded, and we shall sadly miss him. His last sign has been painted, his work finished.

*****It is not known where this individual was buried, and there is no known tombstone. Many of the individuals buried in the smaller outlying cemeteries were moved to the Goodland cemetery in the early 1900's. This individual has been included in the Goodland cemetery for genealogical research based on the obituary.*****
