Jack G. Fast, 86, passed away Aug. 31, 2016, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. He was born July 21, 1930, in Hutchinson, to Gerald H. and Florence I. (Menius) Fast.
Jack graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1948 and from Kansas State University in 1952 with a business administration degree. He served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He was an 83-year member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and was very active within the church. Jack was an avid golfer and in his younger days would play softball as a catcher.
On June 1, 1952, he married the love of his life, Shirley L. Johnson in Hutchinson. She preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2008. Jack is survived by: son, David Fast and partner Richard Kent-Jordan of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Susan Bacon and husband Robert, Cheryl Jerome and husband Rex, and Janet Fast, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Rachel Kelly and husband Daniel, Caroline Bohling and husband Kevin, Tom Bacon, and Andy Jerome; great-grandchildren, Derek Kelly, Leah Kelly, Isaac Bohling; beloved dog, Muffin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church's columbarium with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church or Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
