GREENWICH -- Ruth Oney, 76, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006 at home.

She died surrounded by her family after a two-year illness.

She was born Aug. 25, 1930 in Magoffin County, Ky., daughter of the late Lindsay and Alma (Howard) Hale. She moved to Ohio in 1957 and to Ruggles Twp. in 1963. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, canning and reading. She was also an animal lover. She attended the First Baptist Church of Greenwich.
She is survived by seven daughters, Louanna and Donald Hall of Shiloh, Judy and Richard Starcher of Greenwich, Regina and Larry Noble of Shiloh, Alma Hopkins and Joseph Carney of North Fairfield, Rita and Dee Bowling of New London, LaDonna and Steve Hicks of North Fairfield, April and Steve Vandall of Ashley; three sons, Dan and Regina Whitaker, Lanny and B.J. Whitaker all of Greenwich, Linzie and Sally Oney of Blairsville, Ga.; 34 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Oma Whitaker of Hueysville, Ky., Janice Griffith of Martin, Ky.; five brothers, Sanford Hale, Seldon Hale, Henry Hale, John Hale, Grover Hale all of Greenwich; two step-sisters, Elvinis Shepherd of Gunlock, Ky., Irene Sallee of Monroeville; stepbrother, Sam Hale of Plymouth.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Whitaker in 1955; second husband, Virgil L. Oney in 1993; brother, Talt Hale; granddaughter, Amy Hicks and great-grandson, Isiah Earhart.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 and from 10 until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Friday. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 96 Townsend Street, Greenwich with Pastor Gary Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christie Lane, 306 South Norwalk Road, Norwalk, OH 44857; Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870 or the Luke Clemons Foundation, c/o Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main Street, Greenwich, OH 44837.
