Adopted his step-daughter Mary in 1944. He attended the Eastern Methodist Conference Seminary in Bucksport, Maine and was studying to be a Minister. Funds however were not available for him to complete his schooling so he never did go into the ministry, though he was a very calm, good, and reverent man. He worked for the Maine Central Railroad in the 1920's and relocated to Springfield, MA. during the depression.
