Charles "Char lie" Maynard Bartlett Sr., 90, of Merrill Gardens in Naples, FL died Friday, December 1, 2006 surrounded by his family at North Collier Hospital as a result of complications due to congestive heart failure. Mr. Bartlett was born April 8, 1916 in Winterport, ME, the fourth of five children born to Charles Eben and Elena Atwood Bartlett. Mr. Bartlett served briefly in the United States Navy during WW II on the U.S.S. Reuben James. He attended the Univesity of Maine, Orono. In 1974, he retired after 30 years as an electrical engineer with Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT&T which placed him in many cities throughout the country. Upon his retirement, he moved from Westfield, NJ to Naples, then to Bonita Springs in 1979 and recently back to Naples. Mr. Bartlett was a past member of the Palm River Country Club and Bonita Springs Country Club Men's associations. He was a past member of the American Telephone and Telegraph Pioneers. Mr. Bartlett was a devoted family man and found the greatest pleasure in the company of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed family vacations, boating, baking decadent chocolate desserts, golf and ham radio. Blessed with a gifted mind, he was the proverbial "Mr. Fix-It". He loved a challenge, kept everything in good repair and did not know the meaning of idle hands. He was a kind hearted and loving man, always ready to help a neighbor. He was adored by his wife, children and grandchildren and leaves behind a legacy of integrity, unconditional love and the value of hard work and education. We will miss his marvelous sense of humor. Predeceased by his granddaughter, Autumn Michelle Cantor in 1998; and his only son, and namesake, Charles "Chuck" Maynard Butler Jr. on August 30th of this year. Those that he is leaving behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend of 61 years, Doris Bartlett of Naples; two daughters, Carol (Dick) Ehrnman of Piscataway, NJ and Debbie (Gregg) Cantor of Naples; duaghterin-law, Sherry Bartlett of Natchez, MS; grandchildren, Holly and Melissa Ehrnman of Somerset, NJ, Stephanie (Rich) Bricker of Raleigh, NC, Ashey and Bart Cantor of Naples, Hope O'Malley of Clinton, MS, Brad and Janie Irvin of Natchez; and one great-grandson, William Brian Bricker of Raleigh; one sister, Janet B. Easton of Oakland, ME; as well as many extended family members and friends. Also survived by his daughter from a previous marriage, Judith Rae Bartlett; and his grandchildren, Bill, Jim and Kathy Temple. Dad, it was a WONDERFUL LIFE
