BETTY HELGESON

Betty Helgeson, age 80, passed from the loving arms of her family to the eternal peace and love of God's arms on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she has resided for the past two years.

Betty, the middle of three children, was born to Charles and Rose Delaney, in Coeur'd Alene, Idaho, on June 9, 1929. She was a 1947 graduate of Polson High School, Polson, Montana, and attended Sacred Heart Nursing School in Spokane, Washington.

Betty married John Helgeson on May 26, 1948, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Valders. The couple resided on a dairy farm two miles west of Valders on Hwy. 151 until their retirement in 1988, when they oved to Valders. Betty has been a life long member of Faith Lutheran Church in Valders, serving in many capacities throughout her life as ALCW President, Sunday School teacher, president of the Ladies Aide, Quilting and Layette groups, the Altar Guild, and Mentor to Luther Leaguers, and Stephen's Ministries. She also transcribed Braille for the Iowa Commission for the Blind for 25 years.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years: John, of the village of Valders; two sons and three daughters: Tim (Diane) Helgeson of Reedsburg; Lynn (Terry) Owen of Sheboygan; Julie (Jim) Hess of Sheboygan; Dan (Mary) Helgeson of Rothschild; Wendy (Peter) Steinberg of Reedsville; 12 grandchildren: Sarah (Mark) Tauscher, Andy Helgeson, Joseph (Margaret) Owen, Gabriel Owen, Heidi Hess, William Helgeson, Rebecca Helgeson, David Helgeson, Brianna Helgeson, Jason Steinberg, Darcie Steinberg, Phillip Steinberg; and one great grandchild: Sadie Helgeson. She is also survived by her two brothers: Charles (Glenna) Delaney, Texas; and William (Dean) Delaney, Montana. She is further survived by one sister-in-law: Dorothy Werth, Viroqua; along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Rose Delaney; her parents-in-law: Albert and Sophia Helgeson; three nephews: Larry (Joan) Helgeson, Jeffrey Paque, and Michael Delaney; one niece: Cindy Helgeson; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Norman (Sarah) Helgeson, Alice Mae (Jim) Forsyth, Jeanette (Clarence) Paque and Willard Werth.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Pastor. Rasmus of Faith Lutheran Church will officiate. Friends may call at Faith Lutheran Church from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday.

The Christianson & Deja funeral home is serving the family.
