Avis Day Atkinson, 81 EAST WATERBORO -- Avis Day Atkinson, 81, beloved wife of Carlton (Bud) Atkinson, who was most recently residing with her daughter Sharon and her husband Dennis Abbott, passed away on Aug. 5, 2009, in Scarborough. She was born in Cornish on Aug. 15, 1927, the daughter of Lawrence and Mable Day. Avis was very active in her community and was very well known having worked for the lunch program in Waterboro schools. Avis became Hot Lunch Manager for Massabesic High School when it opened in 1969. She later worked for Hooz' Dress Shop in Sanford. Avis was a member of the Rebekahs Lodge in East Waterboro and later became Marshal for the Maine State President of the Rebekahs. She was predeceased by her beloved, Carlton Atkinson; and siblings, Andrew Day, Olney Day, Melvin Day and Judy Madsen. Avis is survived by her daughter Sharon Abbott and her husband Dennis of Waterboro, son Brian Atkinson and his wife Nancy of Hollis; grandchildren, Todd Abbott and his wife Jennifer, Greg Abbott and his wife Tanya, Brandon Atkinson and his wife Amy, Brent Atkinson and his girlfriend Holly Cressman, and Dustin Atkinson and his girlfriend Jessica Maddocks; great-grandchildren, Jake, Molly, Kyle, Abigale Abbott and Imogen Atkinson; and siblings, Arnold Day and his wife Eleanor of South Portland, Raymond Day and his wife Merle of Limerick, Hazel Vince of Limerick, and Carolyn Prince of Nashua, N.H. Visiting hours will be on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd.) in Buxton (Bar Mills). A service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Freewill Baptist Church of West Buxton, 62 Parker Farm Rd. (Rt. 112) in West Buxton.
