J. E. Hollifield Taken by Death; Rites Set Today

Blacksburg, Jan. 15. John Edgar Hollifield, 87, retired farmer of Blacksburg star route, died about 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon in a Columbia hospital following declining health of several years.
Mr. Hollifield, a native of Rutherford county, North Carolina, had lived here more than 50 years and had been a member of the First Baptist church for about the same length of time.
His wife, Mrs. Nora Sarratt Hollifield, died eight years ago. Mr. Hollifield is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W. J. Maye, of Charlotte;. a son, B. O. Hollifield, of Blaeksburg star route; a sister, Mrs. T. T. Long, and a brother, R. K. Hollifield, of Forest City, N. C; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Baptist church by the Rev. James P. Stokes, the pastor, the Rev. H. C. Dixon and the Rev. Alex Knight. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery with the Shuford - Hatcher Company, morticians, of Gaffney, in charge. The body will be taken from the home, of B. O. Hollifield to the church at 2 p. m.
The pallbearers will be George Black, Ben Boheler, S. S. Gilmer, Arthur Peeler, Cecil Ray, Jack Hampton, George Miller and Hilliard Bolton.
