Jacob Dunkelberger was born at Line Mountain, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and baptized 3 April 1802 at Howerter’s Church, at the same place.

In 1828 Jacob married Catharine Maurer , who was born 6 July 1806, a daughter of J. Jacob Maurer & Magdalena Maurer.

In 1852 Jacob bought a grist-mill and 176 acres located at Deep Creek, north of Hegins at the site of John Huntsinger‘s mill.

Jacob and Catharine were charter members of the first Evangelical Association in the Hegins Valley, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

Catharine Dunkelberger died on 12 July 1866, and was the first burial in the Evangelical section of Frieden’s Cemetery, the Union Cemetery located at Hegins. Jacob Dunkelberger died in 1874 near Hegins and was also buried at the Evangelical Cemetery there.
