Sadie Shinko Bemis Johnson, age 92, of Erie and formerly of Clymer, NY, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Westlake Woods.

She was born on April 11, 1924, at her residence in Hatch Hollow, PA a daughter of the Late John and Helen Horvath Shinko.

She graduated from Union City High School in 1942 and was a home marker most her life, but had worked at Arrow Supply, General Electric, and the Peek ‘n’ Peak.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Corry, enjoyed Bowling, cooking, sewing, and quilting.

Sadie was known as the “potato lady” in the Clymer, NY area growing and selling her Potatoes.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Max Bemis; her second husband Alton Johnson; and a brother Paul Shinko and several other half brothers and sisters.

She is survived by three daughters: Debbie Gold and her husband Ned of Warren, OH; Janni Cooper and her husband Denis of Sherman, NY; Leanna Jagta and her husband David of Union City, and a son Mark Bemis and his wife Val of Sherman, NY; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Cutting Community Church, Cutting Road, Clymer, NY 14724 on Thursday from Noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Cutting Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard.
