Josiah Lewis Brandon was the son of Phillip A. Brandon and Nancy Jane Blackwell. He married first Malvina Bratton on 5 December 1853 in DeKalb, Alabama. They were the parents of Lemuel and Anzella Ophelia. Malvina died sometime before 1870 and Josiah married Mary Ann Stewart, widow of Elisha Lafayette Cunningham. The couple moved to Hamilton, Texas where Josiah most likely died sometime after 1880,
