Theodore Dana (Ted) Adams Jr. of Marshfield, died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 following a valiant battle with lung cancer, ultimately succumbing to complications of pneumonia. He was a Christmas baby, having turned 67 in December. The son of the late Theodore Dana Adams, Sr. and Frances (Morrissey) Adams, Mr. Adams grew up in Quincy, attended St. John elementary school, Quincy Point Junior High, and graduated from Quincy High School, class of 1961. Ted, as he was known, was a natural athlete, who, as a boy and teenager golfed and caddied at Wollaston Golf Club for many summers, and played baseball and basketball in both junior high and high school. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman guarding nuclear-armed B-52 bombers at Beal Air Force Base in California. Following his military service, Mr. Adams worked in the trades for more than forty years, beginning with the former Bethlehem Steel/General Dynamics ship yard in Quincy, eventually joining Local 6 of the Pipe Coverers and Boiler Insulators Union in Boston, including working for a year on the Alaska Pipeline at Prudhoe Bay. He was a working steward, and proudly considered himself a union man his entire life. After retiring from pipe covering, Ted took management positions during twenty-five years in the asbestos abatement trade, overseeing many of the largest and most complex hazardous abatement projects in the industry. Mr. Adams is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Glenda Hollis Adams of Marshfield; two sons and their wives, Mark and Kathleen Adams of Pembroke, Dana and Marianne Adams of Fairfield, CT, two daughters, Cheri LaMonica and her husband, Paul of Wakefield, and Joyell Adams of Marshfield. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. For Ted, his family was the bright shining center of his life. He was a devoted family man, and enjoyed a deep and loving bond with his children and grandchildren, who adored him. Along with his wife, Glenda, he helped provide his children with a wonderful life, and many opportunities that contributed directly to their own personal successes.
