Mrs. Letta Chandler, a native of old Fort Griffin and last member of the original Newcomb family, passed away Wednesday night of last week at Gainsville, She was 85.

Mrs. Chandler, who lived in the Albany area most of her life, had been ill many years. She lived in a rest home at Athens, while her son was employed there with Lone Star Gas co., and when he was transferred to Gainsville several years ago, she entered a rest home there.

The body was brought to Albany and the funeral was at the Assembly of God Church. Burial was in the Albany Cemetery.

She was the former Letta Bioletta Newcomb, born at Ft. Griffin Nov. 23, 1880, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Newcomb who settled in this area in the 1860's. She was reared at Ft Griffin and was married there to Will F. Chandler in 1898. Mr. Chandler passed away in 1904.

Mrs. Chandler was employed for many years by the Barney Bartholomew family, and later lived at Ibex with her son, William Chandler, She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.
