As a child, Helvie played with dolls, and made doll furniture and houses. She liked to swim, sled, and go to parties and dances at the Finn Hall with her parents. In the summer she and her brother, Oliver, would go to Rose Lake on the train with their dad to camp in a tent, swim, and fish. Helvie met John Sinnemaki of Pinehurst, Idaho, at dances. They were married on Aug. 10, 1931 in Cathlamet, Washington. They moved back to Pinehurst and ran the Pine Creek Dairy with John's brother, George, and wife, Vera, until 1962. Helvie drove to farms up the North Fork of the Coeur d'Alene River to pick up extra milk from the farmers. It was bottled at the dairy, and John delivered it to homes in Kellogg and the surrounding areas.
Helive was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed having all the family over often. She had a beautiful garden, was active in WBA (Women's Benefit Association), and bowled for many years in a league in Kellogg. During the 60s she sold Avon. She enjoyed her customers and made many friends. Helvie and John had three children, daughter, Joyce Miles, son, Johnny, and an infant son, who died at birth. The family vacationed often at Lolo Hot Springs, and made trips to the coast to visit Helvie's mother and step-father, John Koskinen, and her brother, Oliver Kaipi. She continued to live in the family home on the dairy after John died in 1976. She moved to the Mountain Valley Care Center in 2004, where she enjoyed friends, parties, activities, and music.
Along with her sister-in-law, Gertude Wilson, Helvie spent many winters in Klamath Falls, Oregon, with Helvie's daughter and son-in law. Along with her dear friends, Rosemary Norris and Olga Norgaard, she was the grand marshall of the Pinehurst Days parade in August of 2002. The honor was to recognize the lifelong residents of Pinehurst.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Dick Miles, three grandchildren, Rich (Will Brake) Miles of Medford, OR, David (Anita) Miles of Eugene, OR, and Janene (David) Molebash of Pray, MT, five great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, brother, sister-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves many close friends at the care center.
Preceded in death by her husband, John, son, Johnny, and infant son, mother, father, step-father, four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Mountain Valley Care Center memorial fund, 601 W. Cameron Ave., Kellogg, Idaho 83837 Services handled by Shoshone Funeral Services. Visitation Friday evening, Dec. 8 from 4-6 p.m.
