A 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, Arthur retired in August 1975, serving numerous CONUS and overseas assignments to include Germany, Taiwan, France, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Alaska, Louisiana, Alabama, Maryland, and Florida. During his career, two dining facilities under his direction won the prestigious Hennessey Award for best dining facility in the Air Force. Arthur ended his Air Force career at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and embarked on another long career in civil service, working at the Eglin AFB Commissary.
During his time in the Army, while stationed in Germany, he met Maria (Ria) Gross, and they were married on May 18, 1957, in Landstuhl, Germany. They were married for almost 55 years until Ria's passing on April 30, 2012.
He was a loving father, Opa, husband, and uncle. He is survived by his daughter, Christina, her husband, John, and their children, Cassandra, Sarah and Alex, along with many nieces and nephews in Germany, Florida, Louisiana, and Michigan.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at the Higginsville Veterans Cemetery.
