Mr. Bluford Marion Dyer, 73, of Blairsville, GA died Friday, December 1, 2006 at Embracing Arms Hospice in Snellville, GA.

Mr. Dyer was born Sunday, November 26, 1933 in Union County, GA to the late Jewell Marion Dyer and Azie Collins Dyer. Mr. Dyer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville. He was a graduate of Union County High School (Class of 1951) and of Truett McConnell College. He was a noted farmer of Union County, especially skilled in making sorghum syrup. He served for 33 years as a member of the board of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). He was a trustee of the Dyer-Souther Heritage Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Jo Shook Dyer, in 2004.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Jounida and Keith Porter of Jefferson, GA; Gail and Wayne Hedden of Blairsville, GA; sisters, Ethelene Dyer Jones of Milledgeville, GA, Louise Dyer of Commerce, GA, Linda Fortenberry, Brenda Murphy and Janice Lance, all of Blairsville, GA; brothers, Eugene Dyer, Lloyd Shelton and Troy Dyer, all of Blairsville; grandchildren, Luke Hedden, Leslie Hedden, Blaze Porter and Sky Porter; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 3, 2006 at 1:00 p. m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, Blairsville with the Rev. E. Keith Jones officiating. The eulogy was given by Mr. Bob Gibby. Minister R. Terry Hooper sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art" and Mr. Ryan Showalter provided instrumental music.

Pallbearers were Blaze Porter, Sky Porter, Luke Hedden, Marty Gibby, Dr. Sylvan Dyer, and A. J. Shook. Interment was at Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery, Union County.
