William Harvey Eads Jr., 94 of Salinas, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016. He was born March 14, 1922 in Washington DC.

He moved to California in 1940 to assist his father in developing laundry facilities at Fort Ord. He joined the Marines during World War II and fought in the South Pacific on Saipan, Tinian, and Tarawa. He was also stationed in Nagasaki after the atomic bomb was dropped. He received the Purple Heart during the war on Tarawa.

After his discharge, he moved to Sacramento and then southern Marin County where he worked as a newspaper distributer. He met and married Shirley Mae White in 1951 and they started their adventure together. He landed a job at San Quentin Prison soon after and transferred to the Susanville facility in the early 1960's. He was transferred to CTF Soledad in 1965 in an era in which it housed some of the state's most hardened criminals. He was a lieutenant and served there until 1978 when he retired and obtained employment at Carmel Valley Ranch as a security officer at this new resort. He remained there until 1991 when he retired for good to enjoy life with his wife, caring for his yard, watching classic movies and the news. He also enjoyed being with the family, and caring for all.

He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley and brother Robert Eads.

He is survived by his brother John (Lynn) Eads of Paradise, son Charles (Kim) Eads of Salinas, and daughter Diane (Dan) White of Phoenix, AZ as well as 6 grandchildren.
