Barbara Ann Messer, formally Barbara Ann Ford, passed away in Coral Gables, Florida, on September 7, 2016 at the age of 71. She is survived by her daughter Dawn Marie Dykes, two grandsons, Richard Cormack and Jason Dykes, a sister Linda Curry, two sisters-in-law, Betty Ford and Marilyn Williams and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Boyd and Dorothy Ford, husbands Richard Adams and Jarvis Messer, and a brother, Robert Ford.
Barbara was born April 25, 1945 in Key West, Florida. She was a sixth-generation Conch. The family home was on James Street. She graduated with honors from Key West High School in 1963. She was a Conchette during her high school years. After graduation, she married the boy next door, Richard Adams. They had one daughter, Dawn Marie.
Barbara had a long successful career at City Electric System, and was promoted several times over the years. She also attended the Florida Keys Community College during those years. After retiring, Barbara married Commander Jarvis Messer. They resided in Key West. She was very proud of her Conch heritage. She especially enjoyed entertaining family and friends to honor them on special occasions. Family and friends looked forward to her special Key lime pie and flan.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Key West Church of God, 1419 White St. Key West. Pastor Shockley will officiate. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
