Marion was born in Wayne County on December 7, 1942 to the late Raymond and Madeline Best Wilkins. He retired from Cherry Hospital as the Supervisor of the Farm Unit. Marion was a past member and volunteer fireman with the Oakland Fire Department. He was a charter member of Mar-Mac Friends Church. As a member of the Friends Church, Marion served as the Clerk of Monthly Meeting, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and as Treasurer.

A service celebrating Marions life will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Howard Seymour and Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Lisa and Sam Herring. Interment will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, NC.

Marion is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Mayo Wilkins; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Sam Herring of Rosewood; sons and daughters-in-law, Stacy and Trisha Wilkins of Currituck and Keith and Sheila Wilkins of Rosewood; seven grandchildren; and his sister, Joyce Wilkins Gardner of Rosewood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Kenneth Wilkins.
