The Paxtons lost their land in Adams County during the border dispute with Maryland. Their Penn grants were not recognized. They moved to Franklin County, Pennsylvania. About 1796 the Paxtons moved to Washington County, PA.
Thomas Paxton, Jr brought his family to Mercer County before the 1810 census in Springfield Township and lived here until his death. At the end of his life he walked many miles visiting his children. He died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Rebecca (David) Hosack.
