He was born October 9, 1930 in Houston, Texas and was the oldest son of Gus and Aldah Christensen. Gus attended St. Thomas Catholic High School excelling in football, baseball, track and basketball. He was chosen for the Houston Post 1947 All City Football Team and was recently notified of placement in the St. Thomas Sports Hall of Fame. Gus attended Rice University and the University of Houston where he met his wife, Erin Erline Allen. They married in Conroe, Texas on August 6, 1955. Raising two daughters and a son, he was an avid bird hunter, guide, and fisherman. He was instrumental in the formation of the Ladybug Softball League in Houston and coached his daughters and many other girls. Gus worked as a sporting goods salesman for most of his working career in Houston. In 1991, Gus and Erline moved to Galveston where he worked for the City of Galveston until his retirement. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring brother, a true friend, and a man of great faith. Gus was one of a kind. Preceded in death by his wife, Erline, and older sister, Aldah Mae Ingram. Survivors include his daughters Donna Gardiner and husband, Terry, and Elaine French and husband, Mark; son, Christopher Christensen and wife, Paige. He is also survived by grandchildren, Beth and Kevin Gardiner, Logan and Tara French, Kemper and Kali Christensen; sister, Anita Williford; brother, Joe Ed Christensen and wife, Gloria, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
