Jessie June Stein, best known as June Stein is the daughter of Edward P. and Valerine (Zoellner) Stein of Kellogg, Idaho.
June attended and graduated from Kellogg High School as salutatorian; during her high school years she received the Bausch Lomb Science Award and the DAR Medal for an American History Essay. June went on to attend the University of Idaho and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. She then served a Dietetic Internship at the University of Michigan. June continued her education, receiving a Master of Science in Public Health & Nutrition at the Western Reserve University of Cleveland, Ohio.
June served as Chief Dietitian at St. Luke’s Hospital in Spokane, Washington. She also worked as the Senior Nutritional Consultant for the Washington State Department of Social & Health Services in Olympia.
She retired in the early 1980’s and returned to her hometown in Idaho’s Silver Valley.
During her career in public service June served as president for Washington State Dietetic and Home Economics Associations. She also devoted time to other nutrition associations. June was a member of the Phi Upsilon Omicron, Home Economics Honorary.
After retirement and returning home to northern Idaho June was active in St. Alphonsus Catholic Parish and Altar Society, the Legion of Mary and Catholic Daughters.
