G. Evelyn Phillips, 87, a lifetime resident of Warsaw, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at her home in Warsaw. She was born Jan. 30, 1911, in Rocky Run Township, the daughter of Van B. and Amanda Ethel Wood Knight. On Aug. 18, 1928, in Davenport, Iowa, she married Truman Harold Phillips. He survives.
She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Irvin (Elsie) Boyer of Warsaw, Mrs. Bill (Nancy) McLaughlin of Farmer City, Mrs. Bill (Patricia) Mitze of Monticello and Mrs. Verl (Wilma) Emmerson of Farmer City; two sons, Richard (and Lucille) Phillips of West Point and Robert (and Shirley) Phillips of Keokuk, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Joe (Imogene) Holeck of Keokuk and Kathryn Davis Thomas of Florida; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister (Grace Queen), and an infant sister (Elsie Marie Knight).
She and her husband celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 18, 1998. She had been employed by Huiskamp Shoe Company, Osgood
Garment Company, Bradfield Hardware and Filz Grocery of Warsaw. She was an avid letter writer. She was a member of Rocky Run Ladies' Aid for over 50 years (Rocky Run Township). She had attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Warsaw.
Services were held Dec. 27, at Lamporte Funeral Home of Warsaw with Rev. John Happs officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
