Dorothy F. Walden, 85, died Wednesday, September 14, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.

Born on May 3, 1931 in Kent County, Texas, Dorothy was the daughter of Callie Agnes (Johnson) and Ernest McKinley Shipp.

She graduated from Rotan high School and attended Hardin-Simmons University for two years.

She married Ducky Walden on April 30, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dorothy worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 32-1/2 years as manager of operator services, retiring in Midland, Texas. Following her retirement, the couple moved back to Abilene in 1985. In Abilene she was a member of Broadview Baptist Church where she helped start Primetimers of which she was a member for over 15 years and served as president. She loved her church family and was very proud of her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone. She loved playing Pinochle, spades and 42.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Marvin, Harvey, Eugene, Hershel and Dan Shipp.

Survivors include her husband, Ducky Walden of Abilene; two brothers, Winfred Shipp of Lake Coleman and Andy Shipp of Rotan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 15, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 16, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Bill Glass Prison Ministry of Boadview Baptist Church, 2500 South 27th St. Abilene, TX 79605.
