She graduated from Clay City High School in 1947. Rosalie married the love of her life, James Bess May 24, 1947. She then furthered her education at Indiana State University, where she received her bachelor's degree in business education/home economics; master's degree in business education; and her education specialist degree in guidance and counseling. Rosalie was a school counselor and taught business and home economics throughout her teaching career. She had taught at Coal City High School (Posey Township), Staunton High School, Brazil High School and Northview High School until her retirement in 1995.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Order of Eastern Star, Indiana State Teachers Association, 21 Club, CU Circle, Women's Guild, and a lifelong member of First United Church of Christ. In her spare time she loved gardening, traveling; especially to Europe, cooking and conducting dinner parties, and spending her winters in Arizona. Her greatest joy was spending time with her three granddaughters.
Rosalie was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Edmondson; and her two beloved dogs, Pixie I and Pixie II. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Bess; son, David Bess; granddaughters, Christina Vargas (Roberto), Leah Bess, and Emily Bess; great-grandson, Sebastian Vargas; nephew, Larry Edmondson; niece, Linda Wynn (David); her dog, Pixie III; as well as extended family and friends.
Services will be Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at 10 a.m. at First United Church of Christ with the Rev. Bob Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Musical selections will be provided by Mr. Steve McCullough. Visitation will be Saturday at 9 a.m. until time of the service at the church.
