In an age when people were not always afforded the education to even read and write their own names, you will find documents with various spellings for the same person. On his death certificate, this is Tillman Arender. It says he was 92 years old and died of old age. Tillman is one of two sons of Henry Arender and Aleatha McCarty. The spelling of her name is in question. The other son is Samson Arender. From these two brothers descend all known Arinders and Arenders. Those with the spelling "Arinder" apparently descend from Tillman.

Tillman was first married to Minerva Hogan. They had a son, Rufus Franklin Arinder, Sr., through whom I descend. They also had Mary K., and possibly Henry Horace, before separating. They possibly had other children together, but the connections are still being worked on.

After serving in the Civil War, Tillman married Betsy Anne (also shown as Annie, Annie E., and Elizabeth (Patterson) on various census records), on July 4, 1867, according to her Widow's Pension record. Together they had William Forrest.
