Mrs. Isabella Hayes Passes Away After Brief Illness At the Home of Her Sister.
Death removed from the community this morning an estimable, Christian Woman - Mrs. Isabella Hayes.
Thursday night Mrs. Hayes was stricken with paralysis and rendered her unconscious, remaining in that state until the end came at 9:45 o’clock this morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. George W. Graham, with whom she was living. Apoplexy was the immediate cause of death.
The deceased was born in the Hopewell section of Mecklenburg. She had attained the age of 75 and lived an exemplar Christian life. Since childhood she has been a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, living a life of light and blessing in the circle in which she moved. Her death brings sorrow to a family closely bound by ties of affection and a host of friends who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Hayes husband, the late Dr. William J. Hayes, preceded her to the great beyond some years ago.
The deceased leaves three sisters, Mrs. George W. Graham, Miss Sophie Alexander and Mrs. Julia S. Smith; one brother, Capt. S. B. Alexander and a son, Mr. Junius W. Hayes, of Pineville.
The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon from the residence of Dr. Geo. W. Graham, Seventh and Church streets and will be conducted by Dr. J. R. Howerton, pastor of First Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Hayes was a member.
The pall-bearers will be Prof. Alexander Graham, Maj. J. G. Harris, Prof. Geo. B. Hanna. Capt. A. J. Beall and Messrs. J. E. Carson and Archibald Graham.
