Born in Nauvoo, Ill., he was the son of Hugo and Orpha Leininger Symmonds. He married Charlotte Schafer on Nov. 21, 1952, in Keokuk.
He graduated from Nauvoo schools. He was a veteran of the Army. Mr. Symmonds worked as a supervisor at Contel Telephone Co., retiring in 1989. He farmed in the Basco area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the casino boat. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Teresa Brotherton of Peel, Ark., and Cindy Boley of Warsaw, Ill.; two sons, Steve Symmonds of Macomb, Ill. and Mike Symmonds of Basco; three sisters, Sylvia Smith of Kirkwood, Ill., Ruth Michael of Joliet, Ill., and Barbara Cannizzaro of Nauvoo; one brother, David Symmonds of Indiana; 12 grandchildren and 13 great–grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at Lamporte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gail Pope officiating.
