Mr. Stephen M. Delaney, age 63 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Oak Tree Villa Nursing Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was born August 21, 1953 in Albuquerque, New Mexico the son of Donald and Phyllis Crawford Delaney.
He was married on March 21, 1981 in St. Martins, Mo. to Dorothy Gross who preceded him in death on June 2, 2006. On September 13, 2013 in Jefferson City, Mo., he married Sharon Wiles.
A life long resident of the Jefferson City area, Steve attended St. Peter Grade School and was a 1971 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He also graduated from Lincoln University.
Steve served in the United States Air Force from 1971 until 1974 and was stationed in Thailand.
He was employed with the Missouri Dept. of Social Services for several years and later with the Missouri Division of Employment Security. He returned to the Missouri Dept. of Social Services and retired as a Computer Programmer in September, 2003. After retirement from the State of Missouri, he was employed with I.B.M. in Columbia for several years.
Steve was a member of St. Peter Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He was a kind, caring person and helped anyone and everyone. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his wife Sharon Delaney; one daughter, Sara Charlton of Camdenton, Mo.; one son, Christopher Delaney and his wife Jenny of Chicago, Illinois; three step-children, Kristen Wiles and her husband Brett Randolph of New Jersey, Brandon Wiles and Jon Wiles, both of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister, Celia Wolz and her husband Terry of Centertown, Mo.; two brothers, Ron Delaney and his wife Lisa of Haughton, Louisiana and Randy Delaney of Quebec, Canada; three grandchildren, Alex Delaney, Jack Charlton, and Grant Charlton; two step-grandchildren, Aria Randolph and Audrey Randolph; three sisters-in-law, Carol Heflin of North Kansas City, Mo., Tanya Powell of Jefferson City, Mo., and Cherie Dennison of Texas; and one brother-in-law, Michael Gross of Texas
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Dorothy Delaney, one sister, Deborah Delaney, and a brother-in-law, Jack Gross.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 30, 2016 with a prayer service to be conducted at 3:15 in the Freeman Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at St. Peter Church with the Reverend Simeon Etonu officiating.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at 2:30 pm Wednesday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Macon, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Assn.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
