Stephen S. Sturgell, 58, Kokomo, died Monday, March 6, 2006, in St. Joseph Hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1947, in Kokomo, a son of Russell G. and Theresa (Biddle) Sturgell. On July 4, 1993, he married Shirley A. Crafill.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was an avid race car fan and enjoyed building and working with his own cars.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Sturgell, Kokomo; two sons, Stephen Jr. and wife Mellisa S. Sturgell, Columbus, Ohio, and Bobby G. Sturgell, Ashville, Ohio; a daughter, Mahalia Sturgell, Peru; two stepsons, Steven Russell and Rick Russell, both of Kokomo; four sisters, Nadine Delph and Lisa Graham, both of Kokomo, Cindi Tripp Sturgell and Lana Jo Pollock, both of Ashville, Ohio; a brother, Russell G. Sturgell, Ashville, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, Michael, Jordan, Brandon, Destiny, Sarah, Sheldon, Josh, Sierra, Madison, Alexandria, Makenzie, Wade, Kali, Carli, Neil, Eddie Jo and Samuel; and his stepmother, Janet Fout, Ashville, Ohio. He also leaves behind many devoted friends and his beloved dog, Penny. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters, Roxanna and Theresa Sturgell.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., with the Rev. Dennis Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Albright Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
