Donald's remains were recovered & identified in May, 2016 and he was interred here in the Arlington National Cemetery on October 17, 2016.

He also has a "Cenotaph" in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial, Henri-Chapelle, Belgium. A "Rosette" will be placed in front of his name at Henri-Chapelle to signify that his remains were recovered.

Son of Daniel L. Beals & Clara R. Eberlein Beals.

Donald served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on P-47D #42-28372, 494th Fighter Squadron, 48th Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Brookings, South Dakota prior to the war.

Donald was declared "Missing In Action" during an armed reconnaissance mission over the Dresden area in Germany when he sighted some aircraft on the ground and attacked. His aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft ground fire. The aircraft crashed and exploded.

Donalds's status, since his remains were recovered, is now "Killed In Action".

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal, and the Purple Heart.

At the time of his death he had plans to be married to Pricilla Hill.
