Hilda Grace Batson was born in the Union Workhouse, Luton (Bedfordshire) on 2nd February 1894. She grew up in the Ellesborough (Buckinghamshire) area. In 1909, at the age of 15, she travelled to Australia with her mother and elder sister, arriving in Brisbane on 10 October 1909 on the 'Oswestry Grange'. The family went directly to Childers, Queensland where her Aunt Sarah Ann Robinson (nee Batson) was living. It is here where we believe she met her future husband Thomas Sutton. Thomas had moved from Brisbane to Childers area to work on the railways.
Electoral rolls place the family back in Brisbane in 1913. Hilda was about 19 years old.. AT the age of 22 she marries Thomas Sutton on 7 March 1916. Her first child William Arthur Sutton was born 2nd June 1917 and a daughter Edna Mary Jane Sutton was born 4th June 1919. On 15th October 1920 a son, Thomas Henry Sutton was born.
Sadly, Hilda became ill following the birth and passed away in Royal Brisbane Hospital on 8th December 1920.
