CACHE Donald Wayne Kaulaity, 83, of Cache, went to his heavenly home on Sunday Sept. 18, 2016, with his loving family by his side.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at Rainy Mountain Baptist Church, Mountain View, with the Rev. Rudolph Tartsah Jr. and the Rev. Ricky Horse officiating.
Burial will follow at Rainy Mountain KCA Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.
Wake service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at Rainy Mountain Baptist Church, with the Rev. Andrew "Sonny" Ware and the Rev. Ricky Horse officiating.
Donald was born July 13, 1933, to Louis and Julia Blanche Dautabi-Kaulaity in Carnegie. He attended schools in Mountain View and Riverside Indian School. He played on the Riverside undefeated football team, where his nickname was "Zole-tone." He served in the Marine Corps from July 1, 1953 to Feb. 7, 1956, earning the rank of private first class, and in the Oklahoma Army National Guard from Nov. 30, 1956, to Nov. 29, 1959, earning the rank of specialist 4. While in the Marine Corps, he completed his boot training at the Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot in San Diego, and his individual training regiment at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was then assigned to the 3rd Marine Div. as a fleet Marine rifleman Pfc. Kaulaity served overseas at Camp Hansen Japan; Inchon Korea; and briefly at Iwo Jima. While in the National Guard he served with the 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Div. as an infantryman. His annual training was conducted at Camp Gruber, Okla., and Fprt Hood, Texas. His awards include the National Defense Service and Korean Defense Service Medal and M1 rifle sharpshooter badge. He attended Trade School at Okmulgee Tech. as a truck driver. He married the late Gloria Asepermy and had three children. They lived in Tahlequah, Dallas, and Lawton. He enjoyed fishing, wood-crafting and spending time with his grandkids. He enjoyed watching old western shows on TV and listening to powwow music. He was a proud full-blood member of the Kiowa Tribe.
He is survived by son, Curtis Clayton Kaulaity of Lawton; his daughters: Shirley Kaulaity-Rivera of Cache; Sue Ann Kaulaity, and Vickie Lynn Chavez of Lawton; grandchildren: Cierra, Lanette, Chad, Daniel, Donna, Ruben, Dylan and Ginger Nicole; great-grandchildren: Tomoyake, Tasha, Tea, Mesa, Miracle, Ginger, Noah, Daniel Jr. and Hunter; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Julia Kaulaity; wife Gloria; and siblings: Gladys Rogers, Francis Kaulaity, Amos Kaulaity, Vivian M. Tartsah, Mary Lee Pewewardy, Louis Kaulaity Jr. "Gene," Ramona Kaulaity Cortez and Adaline Kaulaity.
