Sister Veronica Catherine Bender, 92, of Wickatunk, passed away peacefully after a long illness on September 12th, 2016 in Framingham, MA. She was born in Jersey City, the daughter of Philip and Catherine (Coyle) Bender. In 1950 Sister Catherine entered the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a worldwide congregation, in Peekskill, New York where she received her training in the care and education of girls. She later attended Siena College in Albany, NY. Sr. Catherine resided in Wickatunk, NJ for the majority of her religious life. There she served as local community leader for the Sisters for many years. She was at Collier Youth Services for close to 60 years. During the time Collier held a residential program where sister was a group mother to many young women. In addition she was the school's secretary, the Convent bookkeeper, and was in charge of the kitchen, cars and numerous other essential responsibilities. Sister Catherine possessed a large and generous heart. She loved people and was sought out by many who requested her prayers for their special intentions.

Sr. Catherine (Aunt Ronnie) is survived by many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Friends and family are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, September 23rd from 3-7 PM, at the Sisters of the Good Shepherd Convent Chapel, Morganville. A funeral mass will be held at the convent chapel on Saturday September 24th at 11 AM. Interment will follow at the Sisters of the Good Shepherd Rest Hill Cemetery, Morganville. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Collier Youth Services, 160 Conover Road, Wickatunk, NJ 07765.
