Frank H. Farrell died at the Johnson City hospital Sunday morning, January 15, following an operation.
Mr. Farrell left home the previous week to visit his daughter, who is a nurse at Johnson City, and up to twenty-four hours before his death, seemed to be as well as usual. He suffered a sudden attack and was taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon, where he died the following morninig.
Frank H. Farrell was born in Dushore December 11, 1855, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John H. Farrell, who were among the early settlers of this place. In his early life he followed his trade as blacksmith and alter established the Dushore Bottling Works, which business he continued untiil two years ago, when he sold out to his son-in-law.
Mr. Farrell was an active citizen of the borough. He held the office of burgess, served for several years as member of the town council and took an active interest in the public schools, having been a member of the board of education for several years. On the first of January he completed his term as overseer of the poor. In 1905 he was elected treasurer of Sullivan county.
Mr. Farrell was very active in forming the Dushore Fire Company, No. 1, of which he was an honorary member at the time of his death. He was also a charter member of the Maccabees, Dushore Tent No. 271.
In the passing of Mr. Farrell, the community loses a loyal friend and citizen.
In 1881, he married Kate McDonald of Bernice, who died in July, 1916. To them were born nine daughters: Misses Julia and Mildred Farrell of Brooklyn, Miss Mary Farrell of Bryn Mawr, Miss Edana Farrell of Johnson City, Miss Zeta Farrell of Honolulu, Mrs. C. L. Lorah of Smithport, Mrs. Charles F. Lusch of Cherry township, Mrs. L. J. Fries and Mrs. B. J. Yonkin of this place, and two sons, Leonard Farrell of Johnson City and Ray A. Farrell of Binghamton, all of whom are living and were home with the exception of Miss Zeta Farrell of Honolulu. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Mrs. G. E. Donahue of Rochester, N. Y., Leonard H., of Manchester, N. H., Martin P. and Theodore C. of Brooklyn, Jerome W. of Johnson City and Vincent D. of Corning.
Funeral services were held in St. Basil's church this Wednesday morning.
