Maxine Johanna Jurgens, 96, of Kansas City, Mo, formerly of La Porte City, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at her home.

She was born December 5, 1920 in rural Benton County the daughter of Daniel and Mattie (Hunter) Brennan. She graduated from La Porte City High School.

She married Marvin Henry Jurgens August 16, 1939 in Kirksville, Missouri; he preceded her in death on July 11, 1989.

Maxine worked in the school cafeteria in Kansas City, Missouri for many years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and St. James Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

She is survived by: two sons, John and Richard (Judy) Jurgens both of Kanas City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Leann (Chris) Walker, Curtis (Kim) Jurgens, Sara (Jerry) Grubb all of Kansas City, Missouri and Amy (Corey) Hutcherson of Grain Valley, Missouri and nine great grandchildren, Eric, Jace, Gage, Sloane, Emma, Adelaide, Alex, Logan and Alaina.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; three brothers, Donald, Frances, and Dean Brennan; three sisters, Patricia Brennan, Kathryn Burrows and Agnes Mahood and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Jurgens.

Services Graveside services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at the West View Cemetery in La Porte City.
