William attended Phillips High School in Bear Creek. He was employed with Oscar Meyer where he retired after 31 years.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 10-11am at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held at 11 am. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Haleyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester and Bessie Heatherly; granddaughter, April Heatherly; brothers: Troy, J.B. and Morris Heatherly; sister, Velma Heatherly. William is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marlene Heatherly; sons: Jerry Heatherly, John Heatherly, Mark Heatherly and Mike (Teina) Heatherly; daughter, Laura (Wyman) Ivey; brothers: Jim (Ann) Heatherly, Tom (Judy) Heatherly and Jimmy (Gretchen) Heatherly; sisters, Wilma McGee and Frances McGee; he was grandpa to 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Melissa, Jonathan, Seth, Nova, Dusti, Kiran, Jeffery, Jon, Brandon and Ryan; and 6 great grandchildren, Hayden, Adrian, Emily, Steven, Aaron and Wyatt.
