BRIEF ILLNESS ENDS LIFE OF PIONEER
HENRY BUTLER PASSES AWAY THIS MORNING AT THE HOME OF HIS SON. HE CAME HERE IN EARLY DAYS

Is Numbered Among the Hardy Pioneers of Iowa—Comes to Fort Dodge to See Injured Grandson and Contracts Pneumonia.

Henry Butler, aged eighty-four years, another of the pioneer settlers of Webster county, passed away at the home of his son, J. B. Butler, of this city, today at 10 o'clock. The funeral will occur from the J. B. Butler residence at the corner of Twelfth street and Fourth avenue south Saturday. Services will also be held at Corpus Christi, and interment will take place in the Catholic cemetery. Death was due to an attack of pneumonia, which he contracted a week ago.

Henry Butler was born at Quebec, Canada, in 1820. He came to Webster county and settled on a farm in Badger township in 1868, undergoing all the hardships and trials incident to life in a new and unbroken country. The death of his wife [Margaret Gorman] occurred more than forty years ago. He sold his farm in Badger township and for the past fifteen years has lived with his children, spending most of this time with his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Smith at Sioux City.

A week ago, hearing of the accidental fall and injury of his grandson, Harry, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Butler, he decided to come to Fort Dodge. He was taken ill on his way here on the train. The ailment grew rapidly upon him, ending in pneumonia, and his advanced age and enfeebled condition made it impossible for him to survive the attack

The deceased was a man of liberal views, met all the duties of life heroically and took the greatest pleasure in promoting the happiness of others. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Cornelius Keough, of Douglas township, and four children. The children are Mrs. J. W. Smith of Sioux City, Mrs. Thomas Brennan of Cooper township, this county, and P. D. Butler and J. B. Butler, both of this city.
