Marcie Maxine Sales died on September 23, 2016, at the age of 97. She was born on September 16, 1919, in Topeka, Kansas, to Everett Frendle and Alice Ann (Edwards) Frendle, and grew up in Oskaloosa, Kansas.
She attended Kansas City Business School, where she met and later married Jack M. Rice. To this 20-year union, three children were born: Larry Dean Rice, Marcie Ann (Rice) Fry, and Thomas William Rice. The family was an early member of the Lake Waukomis community in Kansas City, North, where Marcie participated in the local Garden Club and raised her children as a stay-at-home mother.
In 1961, Marcie met and married William E. Sales Jr., and moved to St. Joseph, where she worked for Casey Meyers Ford.
Following the death of CMSgt. Sales in 1992, Marcie returned to Kansas City, North, where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Smithville, Missouri, Women of the Moose of Sugar Creek, Missouri, and Northland Elks of Gladstone, Missouri, and was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star of Parkville, Missouri.
Marcie enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing, and was an avid Royals fan. She participated in scouting activities with all three of her children as Cub Den Mother and Girl Scout troop leader. She hunted mushrooms in the spring, canned the produce from her garden in the summer, and made the perfect pear honey and apple butter in the fall. She was an amazing woman and a great mom.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sales is also preceded in death by: two brothers, Daryl E. Frendle and Kenneth Frendle; and a sister, Alice Imogene Frendle.
She is survived by: one brother, Melvin Joseph Frendle, of Topeka; her sons, Larry Rice (Jennifer), of Grove, Oklahoma, Thomas Rice (Carol), of Grove; her daughter Marcie Fry (Bill), of Kansas City, North; and a step-daughter, Rhonda Yarnell (Mike), of Kansas City North.
She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended-family members.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Garden Valley Nursing & Rehab, where Marcie spent the final three years of her life. We are also grateful for the care and comfort provided by Crossroads Hospice during the past few months.
