Dr. Laurry Hershel Bishop was born on November 16, 1953. He attended Vista High School in Vista, California from 1967-1971. While at Vista, Bishop was a champion wrestler and accomplished clarinet player.

He studied photography under the iconic photographer Ansel Adams and started his own company Bishop Photography Group. He also learned how to fly and reveled in flying his personal aircraft.

Dr. Bishop first started teaching at Brea Olinda High School in the late 1970s as an agriculture teacher on the school's on-site farm. He was most well-known for his passion for teaching photography but he also taught computer science, mathematics, and science. He was beloved by students, faculty, and members of the Brea community.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Bishop volunteered his time to help create the annual Senior Awards' Night Program, served as Graduation Marshall, and published the annual Ladycat Basketball media guide. He helped ensure that BOHS was one of the first high schools in California to be connected to the Internet. In all, Bishop gave forty years of his life to help make Brea Olinda High School the very best in public education.

Dr. Bishop won multiple awards including the Teacher of the Year award for Brea Olinda Unified School District in 1993-1994 and the Outstanding Person of the Year from the California PTA in 1989.

Dr. Laurry Bishop passed away on August 26, 2015 at the age of 61. On September 4, 2015 a funeral service was held at Allen Brothers Mortuary. Additionally, a memorial service was held on September 19, 2015 at the Brea Olinda High School gymnasium where family, colleagues, and former students celebrated his life and legacy. He is interned at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, California with his parents Charles and Phyllis Bishop.
