Doc, 89, Ft. Recovery, died at Celina Manor.

He was the son of John and Mary (Knoth) Kaup. On Sep 1, 1948, he married Bernice 'Bernie' Backs, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters: Jean (Mike) Hupka, Boulder, CO, and Joan (Rick Pender) Kaup, Cincinnati; three sons: Jerry (Lorri), Tom (Tess) and Dave (Lucy), all Ft. Recovery; two brothers: Dale (Donna), St. Anthony, and Floyd (Joyce), Celina; a sister, Irene (Mark) Hein, St. Peter; four brothers-in-law: Maurice (Sandy) and Paul (Ruth) Backs, both St. Joe, and Richard and Robert (Jeannie) Backs, both Marion, IN; two sisters-in-law: Alice Fiely, Marion, IN, and Frieda Backs, St. Marys; and eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a brother linked below; two sisters-in-law: Virginia Kaup and Lois Backs; and four brothers-in-law: Harold (Gertrude) Backs, Art (Ruth) Backs, Donald Backs and John Fiely.

A 1944 graduate of Coldwater High School, he joined the Army and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was employed at the former New Idea, Coldwater, and held the post of Mercer County Animal Warden for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joe, and was also an active member of the American Legion Post 345, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6515, the Ft. Recovery Gun Club and the Ohio Progressive Sportsman Club, all Ft. Recovery. He was an able and competitive baseball player and was also an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and card player. He instilled his love of sports, respect for nature and a strong work ethic in each of his children and many of his grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joe, with Rev. Ned Brown officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
